Exploring new ways of designing, prototyping, and testing at speed

I helped the team cut prototyping time by 60%, align faster with engineering, and validate ideas in hours rather than weeks

Intro paragraph

On this page, I share how I introduced vibe coding into our design process through two real examples: a custom instructions feature and a marketplace feature. For the marketplace, I applied vibe coding directly to speed up prototyping and testing. For custom instructions, I combined research insights with an ideation workshop, which led to multiple creative directions and five prototypes built through vibe coding.

Results/Impact

Despite initial hesitation, the success of vibe coding inspired two other departments to try it.

What did the users say?

Post the user research, findings related to custom instructions were gathered and shared with the team to empathize with the users during the design ideation session.

The formatting strips off when I copy paste.

I use google docs to create custom instructions collaboratively and maintain version history

I referred to multiple custom instructions from different projects to create my own.

I have long custom instructions and the window is too small

I start with ChatGPT to create custom instructions as I need some starting point.

Users

The design ideation session

  1. Research was shared with the team

  2. Crazy 8 method for 5 different problems

  3. Dot voting for 40+ proposals for 5 different problems

  4. Combining all the ideas with most votes into 1 prototype through vibe coding

  5. User feedback on all those 5 prototypes

Impact

I was able to test the prototypes with the internal team immediately post the design ideation session and start working on combining all the design ideas into 1 prototype.

The reduction in time from design ideation to user testing the prototype and getting it reviewed by the engineering time before investing time in creating designs in Figma was tremendous and gave the team a rocket launch.
